5 restaurants to try in Skagit County

Posted

There are so many reasons to visit Skagit Valley, and food is becoming one of them! Once a sleepy little farming county, Skagit is quickly becoming a destination along the northern Washington coast for amazing eats.

Take Edison as an example -- with one intersection and less than 200 residents, this little town has a main street lined with almost a dozen amazing restaurants (two are on this list)!

There's so much to love about the valley, and it was difficult to narrow down our favorites to just five. Without further ado, here are the eateries you must indulge in on your visit to Skagit County:

Tweets Cafe

website / 5800 Cains Court, Bow, WA / (360) 820-9912 / $$-$$$

Nestled on the main drag in the quiet, one-intersection town of Edison, Tweets is a breakfast favorite of folks all over the state. It’s a tiny community cafe you would expect in a town Edison’s size, but stop by during their opening hours and you’ll find it’s always filled to the brim with happy customers from near and far. And if you need another example of the quaintness of this cafe — they post their weekly menu on Instagram — handwritten!

Tweets specializes in breakfast and lunch dishes made with high-quality, locally-sourced meats and produce, but you can also stop in for coffee and pastries if you’re just passing through. If you can, though, take a seat in their rustic dining area and stay awhile.

Mariposa Taqueria

website / 14003 Gilmore Ave, Bow, WA / 360-820-9912 / $

If you’re looking for that pop of flavor that only authentic Mexican food can satisfy, don’t miss Mariposa. It’s a tiny little spot at the end of the tiny main drag of the tiny town that is Edison, but the tacos give big flavor in generous portions — accompanied by delicious homemade corn tortillas. The carne asada is a favorite of many, and the taqueria also has vegetarian options in its seasonal menu options.

They don’t have indoor seating, but during the warm months you can enjoy your tacos at one of their outdoor tables, set in a beautiful grassy yard right at the edge of town.

Railroad Pub & Pizza

website / 122 S Spruce St Burlington, WA / 360-982-2133 / $$

A community favorite, Railroad Pizza is here to satisfy all your cheesy cravings. Conveniently located minutes from I-5 off of Burlington Boulevard in Burlington, the restaurant features a modern, renovated space complete with roll-up garage door-style windows that remain open during COVID-19 to promote airflow.

While you can’t go wrong with their amazing wood-fired pizzas, locals just can’t get enough of their appetizers, most of all the focaccia bread. Make sure to order it with the cheese and dipping sauce for the full experience — oh, and a tasty pint of beer too.

Coa Eatery

website / 214 Maple Ave, La Conner, WA / 360-466-0267 / $$

website / 1810 Riverside Dr, Mt Vernon, WA / 360-840-1938 / $$

For authentic Mexican food with a modern twist, Coa Eatery & Tequileria is the place to be. With two Skagit County locations — Mount Vernon and La Conner — you can catch a bite at Coa wherever your adventures take you. Coa is owned and operated by a brother and sister, who bring their heritage into each dish. Every bit of their artisan cuisine is made-from-scratch, and the restaurant also features a 100% tequila bar with only the best agave tequilas.

We couldn’t possibly recommend just one meal from Coa (because every dish is better than the last), but we’ve asked around and Coa’s enchiladas are a local favorite — along with anything served with their mouthwatering mole sauce!

Adrift

website / 510 Commercial Ave, Anacortes, WA / 360-588-0653 / $$

If you’re a PNW newbie, you can’t leave without tasting our seafood. There’s no better place to taste the local cuisine than Adrift, which pulls its menu from Skagit County and the surrounding waters. Adrift is located mere blocks from the water, where you’ll experience stunning views of Guemes Island and downtown Anacortes.

On their menu, you’ll find a variety of seafood and comfort food, from unrivaled crabcakes and pan-fried oysters to sizzling French onion soup and classic all-American burgers. To complement their amazing food, Adrift has a beautiful ambiance with rustic decor and a very small-town feel.
